Connect the component ingredients
A compound ingredient represents a recipe used inside another recipe. A house dressing, dough, or stock can have its own record and be reused in several dishes.
- In Ingredients, choose Add ingredient or edit the existing house recipe.
- Give it a clear Ingredient name.
- Select This is a compound ingredient.
- Under Compound recipe, use Add a recipe ingredient to select each component.
- Review Additional flags from preparation.
- Read Combined allergen preview, then save and confirm affected dishes if prompted.
The component records supply their own flags. Additional preparation flags can add information, but cannot remove inherited flags. Contains takes precedence when the combined records include both Contains and May contain for the same allergen.

In a dish editor, select the saved house recipe as an ingredient. Dishcard follows its components when calculating the dish’s flags. The compound detail page shows its recipe and affected dishes, including dishes reached through another compound.
Check the preview against the actual house recipe before saving. If the combination looks wrong, open the component records rather than trying to cancel inherited flags on the compound. Unreviewed or missing components can keep the resulting dish incomplete.
When the house recipe changes, update that ingredient record and review the affected dishes. Save the change, inspect the menus, and replace old printed or downloaded outputs.
Resolve an invalid recipe structure
Up to three compound levels are supported. A recipe cannot include itself, either directly or by referring to another compound that eventually points back to it. If Recipe needs correction appears, remove the circular link or simplify the nesting.
A compound must include at least one component. Review every enabled preparation flag even if the components already contribute flags. Clearing This is a compound ingredient removes the selected component list from the draft, so inspect the result before saving.
Separate records are useful when two versions use different products. Avoid renaming one shared compound to represent a new recipe unless you intend that change to reach every dish that uses it.
